For the Valentine Grove Project, our brief was to improve both the functionality and aesthetics of the small and inefficient kitchen space.

Our clients wanted a brighter space, which we achieved by removing the full-height joinery. This encouraged natural light to flow into the kitchen and dining areas. To soften the entrance into the kitchen, we chose a curved waterfall feature clad in Carrara marble. The centrepiece of this kitchen is the rangehood, clad in white contemporary kit kat tiles. These tiles, with their raised Art Deco-style pattern, paid homage to the traditional character of the home while introducing a modern twist with their streamlined kit kat shape.

We extended the benchtop to provide extra storage space and included shallow storage at the front of the joinery to improv functionality. Our clients wanted to showcase natural stone, so we selected Carrara marble for the benchtops and splashback, as well as for the cabinetry knobs, achieving a balance between the old and new. To maintain a light and bright ambiance, we introduced a pale green Dulux color called ‘Still’ for our joinery.

The kitchen and bathroom areas were tied together by playing with different shades of green and adding curves to the shower ledge and splashback to match the kitchen.
