This playful Thornbury home was after a facelift to their existing laundry, living, ensuite and alfresco area. The clients have been updating their home throughout recent years and were seeking a transformation to the final spaces to complete the look and functionality of their home. The ensuite features a pink terrazzo look floor tile that we’ve opted to run up the ledge wall to create depth, packing more interest and fun into the space. The ensuite was designed in mind for the clients daughter, so creating that younger girls dream bathroom was a big part of the brief. The existing ensuite was quite small to begin with, and there was no alternative room we could grab extra space from. So to create the illusion of a bigger room (and to balance in amongst all the pink) we’ve added in white tiles in varying sizes, and run them horizontally, to create the illusion of a wider room. Keeping existing characters of the home was also a consideration, such as utilising the soaring ceilings, artistic cornice, and leadlight cavity sliding door.
To create cohesion amongst the spaces we’ve repeated the white kit kat tile we used in the ensuite, and have laid it horizontally here to create consistency. The overall palette of the ensuite is bright and white to give a sense of cleanliness, and to allow the grey terrazzo floor tile to be the feature. We’ve added in touches of timber to add warmth and prevent the room looking too stark. The existing laundry had an external door that gave them access to the alfresco. This was removed and replaced with a sashless black framed aluminium window which adds an abundance of natural light into the space, making the laundry feel bigger again.
